Data Deletion

Effective 1 May 2026

This page explains how to delete the data Storey holds about you. It applies whether you connected through the WordPress plugin, the Shopify app, or a connected social account (Meta — Facebook and Instagram — or TikTok). For the full detail of what we collect and how long we keep it, see our Privacy Policy.

1. What gets deleted

On a deletion request we remove the personal information tied to your Storey account, including:

  • Your account profile (name, email, password hash).
  • OAuth access and refresh tokens for any connected Meta or TikTok account.
  • Connected social account identifiers (Page ID, Instagram Business ID, TikTok open_id) and display names.
  • Your store connection details, selected product data, and post history.

Some records are retained where the law requires it — for example, billing records kept for South African tax purposes (typically 5 years). These are isolated and deleted once the retention period ends. See section 6 of our Privacy Policy.

2. Disconnect a single social account

If you only want to revoke Storey's access to one social platform, you do not need to delete your whole account:

  • Open your Storey dashboard, go to the connected accounts area, and choose Disconnect for the relevant account.
  • Storey immediately revokes and deletes the OAuth tokens for that account. We can no longer read from or publish to it.

You can also remove Storey from the platform's own settings:

  • Facebook / Instagram:Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites → select Storey → Remove.
  • TikTok:Settings and privacy → Security & permissions → Manage app permissions → remove Storey.

3. Uninstall the plugin or app

  • Shopify:uninstalling the Storey app from your store's Apps page revokes our access. We delete the store connection and associated tokens. Per Shopify's requirements, any remaining shop and customer data is erased within 48 hours of the uninstall (and on receipt of Shopify's mandatory data erasure request).
  • WordPress / WooCommerce: deactivating and deleting the Storey plugin disconnects the store and revokes its API key.

4. Request full account deletion

To delete your entire Storey account and all associated data, email privacy@storeyplugin.co.za from the email address on your Storey account, with the subject line “Data deletion request”. Include your store URL so we can locate the account.

We confirm receipt and complete the deletion within 30 days, subject to the legal retention exceptions in section 1. We will email you when the deletion is complete.

5. Meta data deletion

If you used Facebook Login to connect Storey and want Meta to direct a deletion request to us, you can remove Storey from your Facebook settings (section 2). To additionally request that we delete the data we obtained through that connection, email privacy@storeyplugin.co.za as described in section 4. We will process the request and confirm by email within 30 days.
